Parkville's Electrician, Main Street to Riss Lake

Parkville is two towns as far as wiring goes. Downtown, platted in 1844, sits on the Missouri River below Park University, in buildings far older than any code book. Up the hill, Riss Lake, The National and the newer subdivisions are large homes carrying large loads. We work on both, across the Northland from our shop.

Mackay Hall, the river, and a new code book in 2026

Park University has been on the bluff above downtown since 1875, and its Mackay Hall is on the National Register of Historic Places. Below it, the town grew from 5,554 people in 2010 to 7,117 in 2020, most of that in the subdivisions to the north. In January 2026 Parkville moved to the 2023 National Electrical Code with two local changes worth knowing: arc-fault protection is required on bedroom circuits rather than throughout the house, and where the service conductors run more than ten feet from the meter before reaching the panel, the house needs an outside disconnect.

Parkville FAQ

Common Questions from Parkville Homeowners

Which electrical code does Parkville inspect to?

The 2023 National Electrical Code, adopted by Ordinance 3290 and in effect since January 20, 2026. Parkville amended it in two places that show up on real jobs: arc-fault (AFCI) protection is required on bedroom circuits, including when new circuits are added to an existing house, and service conductors that run more than ten feet from the meter before reaching the panel need an outside disconnect.

Who supplies power in Parkville?

The city lists Evergy as its electric utility, so a panel or service upgrade means a meter pull and reconnect scheduled with Evergy. It also means Evergy's EV charger rebate can apply, if you meet its terms.

Can you pull electrical permits in Parkville?

Yes. Parkville issues electrical permits only to a licensed master electrician, or a contractor who employs one, and we are licensed there. We pull the permit for work that needs one and meet the city inspector ourselves.

Do you work on the older buildings downtown?

Yes. Downtown Parkville sits in the Missouri River floodplain; in June 2011 the city sandbagged and put up temporary flood walls to keep the river off Main Street. Electrical equipment that has been under water is replaced rather than dried out and reused, so in these buildings the first job is finding out what has been wet and what was added since.

Do you serve Parkville, MO?
