What we usually find in Liberty panels
The homes around Liberty's historic square are some of the oldest in the metro, and a good number still have the panel they were built with. If yours is a fuse box, a 60-amp service, or a Federal Pacific, replacing it is one of the highest-value safety upgrades you can make to the house.
Near the square and around William Jewell, we still open fuse boxes and 60-amp services regularly — enough capacity for a 1940s kitchen and nothing like enough for central air, a second refrigerator, and a car charger. We also find a lot of Federal Pacific Stab-Lok and Zinsco panels from mid-century remodels. Both are widely flagged by electricians and insurers as fire risks because their breakers can fail to trip under load. Newer Kingsridge builds are usually fine on capacity but sometimes full, with no space left for another circuit.
Signs a Liberty panel is due for replacement
