Tesla Charger and Wall Connector Installation
A Tesla Wall Connector is the fastest way to charge a Tesla at home and the simplest charger there is to live with. Installing it is ordinary electrical work done carefully: a circuit sized for it, a panel that can carry it, and one setting most owners never hear about.
The breaker and the setting have to match
A Wall Connector can deliver up to 48 amps, and for that it needs a 60 amp circuit, because a charger that runs for hours is a continuous load and the circuit is sized with a margin. It also runs on a smaller circuit, turned down to match. During setup the unit is told which breaker it is on, and that setting, not the label on the box, is what keeps the circuit safe.
Most Kansas City garages do not need the full 48 amps. A car that sits overnight fills just as completely at 32 or 40 amps, on a smaller circuit and sometimes without a panel upgrade. We work that out from your panel, your car and how far you drive, then set the Wall Connector to match.

What moves the price of a Tesla charger install
We do not publish a dollar figure we cannot stand behind. What we can tell you is which parts of the job move the number.
| Job | Relative cost | What drives it |
|---|---|---|
| Wall Connector near a panel with room | Baseline | A short run from a panel with spare capacity to the garage wall. The simplest version. |
| Full 48 amps on a 60 amp circuit | Higher | Heavier wire and more panel capacity. Worth it only if you need the speed. |
| Detached garage or a long run | Higher | The circuit is trenched out or run the length of the house. Distance decides it. |
| Panel upgrade or load management first | Highest | An older or full panel may need an upgrade, or a load-management device, before a charger circuit fits. |
| Two Teslas, two Wall Connectors | Depends on the panel | Wall Connectors can share one circuit’s power between them, so a second charger does not always need a second big circuit. |
| NEMA 14-50 for the Mobile Connector | Lowest | An outlet for the portable connector instead of a Wall Connector. Tesla’s 14-50 adapter tops out at 32 amps. |
Before the Evergy rebate for Missouri customers. We check the panel and the route before quoting, then give a flat price.
What to Expect
Check the panel
Spare capacity and free spaces decide the circuit size, and whether the full 48 amps makes sense.
Walk the route
Where the car parks, where the cable reaches the charge port, and the path from the panel.
Permit and install
A dedicated circuit, the Wall Connector mounted and hardwired, inspected where the city requires it.
Set it up and test
The Wall Connector set to match its breaker, on Wi-Fi if you want its updates, and a charge started before we leave.
Questions We Get
How much does it cost to install a Tesla Wall Connector?
Panel capacity and distance account for most of it, the same as any Level 2 charger. A Wall Connector on the garage wall beside a panel with room is the simplest version; a detached garage, the full 48 amps, or a panel that needs upgrading first is where it grows. We quote flat after seeing both, and Missouri Evergy customers on a Time of Use rate can claim up to $500 back.
What size breaker does a Tesla Wall Connector need?
A 60 amp circuit for the full 48 amps. It also runs on smaller circuits, 50, 40 or less, turned down to match during setup. The breaker, the wire and that setting have to agree.
Is a Wall Connector better than a NEMA 14-50 outlet?
For a Tesla you drive every day, usually yes. The Wall Connector charges at up to 48 amps and has no plug to wear out, while the Mobile Connector on a 14-50 outlet tops out at 32 amps. The outlet costs less and stays useful for other EVs. Both qualify for the Evergy rebate in Missouri.
Does the Evergy rebate cover a Tesla Wall Connector?
In Missouri, yes, on the same terms as any Level 2 install: up to $500 if you are on an Evergy residential Time of Use rate and stay on it for a year, with a licensed electrician’s itemized invoice and the car registered at the address. It does not cover Evergy Kansas customers or Independence Power & Light customers.
Do I need a Tesla certified installer?
Tesla lists certified installers on its website, and they are one option. A licensed electrician can install a Wall Connector correctly too. What makes the install right is the same for any Level 2 charger: a circuit sized to the setting, a permit and inspection where the city requires one, and the Wall Connector configured to match its breaker.
Can a Tesla Wall Connector charge other electric cars?
The Universal Wall Connector has a built-in adapter for the older J1772 plug, so it charges most EVs. The standard Wall Connector has the Tesla plug, which a growing number of other makes now use; older cars with a J1772 port need an adapter.
How long does a Tesla charger install take?
Most are a single day. A trench to a detached garage or a panel upgrade adds time, and we tell you which yours is before starting.
